What you’ll learn in this health care coordination program

Studying health services coordination provides you with the foundation you need to connect clients with the best care possible and help them progress through the system. This program is centered around three key components:

  • Patient advocacy and education.
  • Resources available from community and public health services.
  • The role of health policy and financing in modern health care.

A health services coordinator is an advocate for patients, but not a health care provider. This program will teach you how to help clients successfully move through the health care system. While this degree doesn’t lead to licensure, it does prepare you for a rewarding career as an advocate in health care.

Additionally, this bachelor’s degree can be completed as part of an Accelerated Master’s program. When accepted, you can earn a master’s degree in as little as one year after completing your undergraduate degree. This opportunity saves you time and money, while giving you advanced knowledge in your field. Applicable master’s degrees include:

What does a health care coordinator do?

A health care coordinator engages in a variety of assistive and supportive tasks, including coordinating with other professionals to ensure the treatment plan is followed correctly, helping patients understand treatment options, scheduling appointments and sharing information.

Health care coordinators also identify and avoid or correct potential issues in the provision of care. They interface with other professionals in the field to achieve this goal, prioritizing the need to be creative, innovative and collaborative to secure the best outcomes for their clients with limited resources.

How does this program differ from ASU Online’s integrative health and community health programs?

While our online bachelor’s programs in health care coordination, integrative health and community health all revolve around health care, they differ in big ways.

  • Health care coordination: This program is centered around patient advocacy. Navigating the world of health care can be complicated and as a health care coordinator, you can make your patient’s path clear.
  • Integrative health: This program incorporates a scientific approach to health with associated wellness practices. Not only will you learn to treat someone physically, but also mentally and spiritually.
  • Community health: This program focuses on improving the well-being of a community rather than an individual patient. You’ll learn to address health concerns and equip communities with the knowledge they need to stay safe and healthy.

Will my diploma say ‘online’?

No, Arizona State University’s diplomas don’t specify whether you earn your degree online or in person. All diplomas and transcripts simply say “Arizona State University.”
