GCU offers online programs leading to initial licensure for teaching and/or administration. Such programs provide institutional recommendation (IR), which recognizes graduates as "eligible for a credential" or initial certification in their area of study. If seeking licensure or certification, applicants to the program are responsible for contacting their state department of education for licensure requirements and program approval. In addition, fingerprint and background clearance is required.

Will My Degree Say “Online”?

No. At GCU you earn the same degree whether you study online or in person, backed by the same well-respected accreditation as all GCU degrees.

If you are seeking licensure/certification, please refer to the Accreditation and Compliance/State Disclosures link for the specific program of interest's website for your location and/or employment state's licensure requirements, per 34 CFR 668.14(b)32 and 668.43(c).

Excluding observational and practice-based experiences, and student teaching. 

Based on the 2021-22 academic year, GCU’s private Christian tuition is 47% more affordable than the average out-of-state tuition of Arizona’s three state universities. 

Includes students who have graduated or completed their program from 1957 to February 2025. This does not include students in Bridge Programs, High School Dual Enrollment, Non-Degree Studies or Continuing Education. Alumni counts are unique by academic level (baccalaureate, graduate or doctorate). If an alumni completed a baccalaureate level program and completed a graduate level program within the timeframe stated, they are counted for both programs.

MOU 9700 & 9701: This scholarship is only valid for those applicants who are participating in a GCU College of Education or secondary education emphasis master's degree program, offered online, and who submit a completed application to start their program on or before December 31, 2025. If you enroll in a master's degree program through any of the College of Education or secondary education emphasis degree programs offered online, Grand Canyon University will offer you 18% off the tuition per course for your program. This scholarship will be applied at the same time the tuition charges occur. This scholarship cannot be used in conjunction with any other GCU scholarships/awards. This scholarship will be applied toward your tuition only and does not include fees (i.e., Canyon Connect, Technology, etc.).
